Tip of the week


Balance is often the cause of errors in tennis. Are you balanced on your shots? Are you in control of the ball or is the ball in control of you? You can check by being aware of your movement after you hit it......are you regaining your balance before recovering or are you recoovering for the next shot on balance?

Alistair Higham

After playing tennis professionally for two years competing around Europe, he held the post of Nottinghamshire County Coach 1989-94, and then LTA National Coach 1994-2001.

During his time in Nottinghamshire, he coached seven players from the age of six/seven years old, who went on to represent GB 16U/14U at junior level, winning several national championship titles between them.

1993-2001 He was Age Group Captain of Great Britain 16U Girls. During this period, the team finished in the top 6 in the European Winter Cup Finals on four occasions.

Elected member of the British tennis Coaches Association National Executive Committee in 1991-1999. On their behalf, he instigated and developed, in the Role of Tournament Director, the 13 and under B.T.C.A. Player Plus Tournament. Now the biggest 13U international tournament in GB.

He is now working in Coach Education for the LTA as a tutor on the PCA, CCA and DCA, as well as coaching privately. He is also working with different sports on controlling momentum, including working with football clubsin the Nationwide Divisions

He has written two books:

Momentum - The Hidden Force in Tennis, a coaching tool for players and coaches and is used by coaches on the ATP and WTA tour.

Off the Frame - Tennis Tales from Bogshire - a humurous collection of short stories and sketches from Club and County Tennis based in a fictional Northern County.
